An Honest Review of LipSense. Is It Too Good To Be True?

Anyone who knows me (even in the slightest) will know that I usually, almost always, have two things on when I leave the house. The first being some sort of heel (I’m 5’0″ – hello!), and the second, is a lip color.  I have an obsession with both things, but because the latter is easier to snag at a moment’s notice, I have quite the collection.

Exhibit A:

A third of my collection...
A third of my stash…

See, so yeah. I have a thing. Knowing this, you can only imagine my reaction when I was offered the opportunity to try out a brand new kind of lip color (um, yes!!) .

LipSense - Lexie Bear-y & Glossy Gloss
LipSense – Lexie Bear-y & Moisturizing Gloss

It’s called LipSense, and their “claim to fame” is that each lip color lasts up to 18 hours, and is waterproof, kiss-proof and smudge-proof. That’s a pretty tall order for a lip color, no!? Naturally, I was skeptical (as would anyone who knows anything about lip color), so I decided to test it out for myself.

After trying out LipSense over the past few days, here’s what I’ve learned.

  1. Naked lips are a MUST. Literally nothing can be on them pre-application. I use Argan Oil on my lips almost everyday, so I tried a couple times to keep up with my daily routine…thought I was being sneaky, and within an hour or so, the LipSense color started flaking off. (Not a good look.) I realized later, that it did that because the color wasn’t fully able to adhere to my lips (couldn’t penetrate the oil!) So again, NAKED lips.
  2. Exfoliate! There’s nothing worse then putting on fresh color and having dry lips. (Yuck!)
    • Tip: Use an old toothbrush (that you no longer use to brush your teeth, naturally) and brush over your lips a few times. Back and forth. That’ll help get your pout picture perfect.
  3. This color is super pigmented. Be careful how much color you have on your applicator. The first time I applied it, I had too much on, and the color deposited weirdly around my lips – made me look like I had lip liner on (in a bad way). On the flip, the second time I tried, I had too little on the brush and it started picking up its own color. So, play around until you get the right amount of color, but just remember, a little goes a long way.

Now, to taking it off. Because LipSense adheres to your lips, getting it off can be a challenge. GREAT for during the day when you don’t want it to come off, but a pain in the patoot at night when you’re trying to go to bed fresh-faced. But, I found a great little hack that works every time. Baby wipes! Just take one corner of the wipe, wrap it around your finger and work it around your lips in a small, circular motion. Nice and slow. Voila! By the way, baby wipes are like my secret weapon. I use them for almost everything! The way I see it, if they’re safe enough for a baby’s bum, then they’re safe enough for pretty much anything. How’s that for justification?

If you want to get your hands on some LipSense, it’s pretty easy. There are LipSense distributors all over the country. Here in Massachusetts (& NH!), Diane Meehan is your girl. She’s constantly getting in new colors, and if you’re not sure what shade would be best for you, she’s there to help! In fact, she’s the one that picked Lexie Bear-y for me! #Nailedit.

Naturally I had to have a little photoshoot!
